Today I woke up mad. I am not really able to pinpoint why, though. I know I'm not suffering from one of my monthly TIPs (Testosterone Induced Periods). It's not that kind of mad. I quickly decided I was going to limit my human interaction as much as possible today.
I slept in. That was nice. I made breakfast for my sister & I and just relaxed around the house. I felt compelled to attend the Vineyard this morning. Now the Bible has a phrase that perfectly describes my heart this morning during worship. The phrase is: "a sacrifice of praise". I worshipped...but man, it was a sacrifice...it took work!
Afterwards, I was free for a good 4 hours before I had to be back at the Vineyard for a monthly leadership meeting. I had 4 hours to spend time by myself so that I would be able to spend 3 hours with a few hundred people without dropping the F-Bomb on someone.
Since gas is back down to a measly $2.25 a gallon, I decided to go driving. I ended up down in Giant City State Park. For my friends not familiar with Southern Illinois, this is one of our state parks...it's not giant and it's not a city...but it is a beautiful park. I took the picture above from the water tower. It was an awesome time except for all the stinkin' people!
I finally was able to find a place in the park where to the best of estimation, I was at least a couple thousand yards away from the closest living human. It was incredible just to BE and hear nothing but the sounds of nature. I didn't hear anything man-made. My lungs were filled with the air of pine trees, lake water, and dying leaves. It reminded me how amazing it is to be alone, and how rare it truly is these days to find yourself totally away for a small period of time...unless you live in Idaho or some barren place like that.
I walked around for a bit longer, drove some more, spent some time walking through a cemetery, bought some ice cream off of an aging hippie, and am now eating some soup at Panera. That's all I got, folks! Until next time...
