Part 2 -- AWF -- All Wheel Faith

Part 2 of AWF – All Wheel Faith

So lets say that the Christian Faith was the Continental US, all of us begin our journey of faith at Key West, Florida, and our final destination is Seattle, Washington. You know you want to go North and West to end up in Seattle from Key West; but the route you use to get there is (or should be) only limited to your preference.

The problem I have with denominations and even movements (who will become a denomination in deed if not in word, unless they intentionally work against the natural gravitation of organizations) is that, although with good intentions, they limit the Christ Follower’s options in what routes they take on the journey of faith. I am not implying any route that would be unbiblical or in our metaphor any route that goes outside of the United States.

A Christ Follower has an ALL-WHEEL-FAITH. If a Christ Follower’s faith was a vehicle, it would be a Hummer. This bad boy can travel on any alley, city street, state highway (even Missouri’s), and interstate you pull in front of him. Having AWF allows a Christ Follower to take any road to Seattle. But, there’s more! The beautiful thing about AWF, is that if the route through Kansas gets a little too boring, you can take the journey off road! You are still moving towards your final destination; but you are making a route where a route did not previously exist five minutes ago.

The thing about having AWF is that no matter what your personality is, it will suit your taste. If you are the structured type, stick to the roads. If you are of the “color-outside-the-lines” type, then take the AWF off the pavement. Whatever you choose, the Christ Follower’s AWF can handle it.

What breaks my heart is that the church in America is dangerously coming close to losing its identity all together. More and more, it seems like the church is taking on the role of the Department of Transportation…the keepers & promoters of the highway infrastructure. Where, instead, I believe the church was created and is to be all about the facilitators of AWF Hummer Communities. The focus needs to be on the vehicle that we are in throughout the entire journey and what gets us to our final destination; not the important, beautiful, & great roads that we use as a part of our route.

If you have ever owned a special breed of vehicle or knew someone that did, then you know when you buy a corvette, a harley, a mustang, or a land rover you just didn’t buy a vehicle; but you bought into a community.

If you ever want to talk about raising funds for a new toll way in Oklahoma, I’m not your guy. If you ever want to talk about a road trip, I’m all ears!

May God continue to grow an AWF in all of us!! Blessings!!!

Good stuff...for a liberal! Ha. Just kidding. However, as I read your thoughts I begin to think about how denominaitons got started anyway. It seems that if one got bored or disagreed in the slightest way that thye would start their own thing. Notice I said THEIR own thing. Based on our conversation the other night...RIchard Foster nailed it with saying that superficiality has plagued our age. Everyone seems to want to get to their destination hte quickest and in the way that they came up with. Have you ever been in the car with someone else only to find out later on during the roadtrip they have a set of rules that they play by and assume others to play by since it is their car and they are driving the vehicle. They say things like please put on your seatbelt...or no smoking please... or we listen to what I want to listen to on the radio. The list goes on. That is what we have done with our churches. Now let me pick a beef with the Chatholic CHurch and the Penicostal Movement. They both desire the Holy Spirit, however, they both tell me that I can't aquire the Holy Spirit without going through Mary and the other side says I can't have the spirit without speaking in tongues. WHat gives. Jesus never mentioned any of these. I will stick with my structured Church of God Anderson, Indiana church anyday! By the way, the Spirit is free at our church and we don't give it out to people...Jesus does!
